Another semester, another great studio session. This time, I composed, arranged and mixed a 4 horn section (trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone). They played together with a jazz-ensemble consisting of drum, bass and piano. The studio took place via zoom, which was ok. I’d still prefer beeing there.

ELECTRO MEETS CLASSIC

Not only did I venture into the depths of the universe, but also into electro for the first time. I wrote “1over137” last semesters course “Arrangement and Instrumentation”. Some of the sounds you probably perceive as synthesizer are unmistakably processed cello and piano sounds.

100 MILES DASH – RESCORE

The 100 miles dash is a jazz-latin re-score of a fabulous scene from “The Incredibles”. It was played by a jazzcombo consisting of trumpet, sax, piano, bass, drum. The studiosessions are very special events: I learn how to write and prepare the session as precisely as possible, as I only get 20 minutes to rehearse and record the piece.

EXERCUBE LEAGUE – TRAILER

In Spring 2020, I got my first job as a composer for media – besides university-projects. The trailermusic I composed, was used for promoting the ExerCube league hosted by a swiss company called “Sphery”. They invented a product called “ExerCube”, which is an interactive, immersive fitness gaming tool.

 I’m Leo Brennauer a musician and composer from germany, living in Zurich. I’m currently studying composition for film, theater and media in my fourth semester at the zurich university of arts.

My musical background has been shaped by the different musical groups with whom I have played, written, produced and recorded. I am a multi-instrumentalist (piano, drums, guitar, recorder, etc..), who loves to experiment with instruments, technology, sampling and is always searching for fresh new sounds. My strength lies not only in writing music, but I also have experience producing, recording and mixing.

My current studies include dramaturgy, studio practice, recording, sound engineering, media techniques, ear training, transcription, arrangement, instrumentation, instrumental lessons, electro acoustic and choir-singing. In addition to that, I have classes in classic-, jazz- and pop- as well as contemporary-composition.

Before returning to school, I worked full time while managing bands and scheduling events, which all helped me to become very organized, efficient in time management, resilient and resourceful. I have the ability to work independently, cooperating within a team or by assignment. I would describe myself as an positive, energetic, organized and very active person.
